At their last meeting on 17 July 2008 in Bratislava, Slovakia, on the fringes of the Women's Youth World Championship, the Executive Committee of the International Handball Federation approved the restructuring of the Head Office in Basle. According to the new structure, the work at the Head Office will be divided into two independent areas.

Ekke Hoffmann, former head-coach of Germany's national women's team, will be leading the Sports Department from the beginning of September, whereas Christoph Geissler, former Assistant Managing Director, will head the Administrative Department with immediate effect. Both heads of department will report directly to IHF President Dr Moustafa.

In this way the IHF reacts to an increasingly busy event calendar and the requirements resulting thereof. "I am convinced that not only the member federations but handball world-wide will benefit from the restructuring of the Head Office", IHF-President Dr Hassan Moustafa commented the decision.
